Finding realignment with your creativity and purpose.
While growth and success in business is exciting, no ever tells you what to do when you have built something that feels misaligned.
Rediscovering purpose
Over 2023, Georgina experienced significant growth in her creative business, working with incredible clients, traveling internationally, and achieving many of her long-term goals. “I ticked off some of my biggest milestones—being published, working with international clients, traveling—but then I found myself asking, ‘What now?’” she reflects.
This moment led Georgina to a deep realisation: while these achievements were impressive, they didn’t bring the long-term fulfilment she expected.
“I realised my goals were more about recognition and authority, not about building a sustainable, meaningful future,” she admits. This insight marked the beginning of a transformative journey for her.
Actionable steps for creatives to realign their purpose
For listeners who may be feeling stuck or questioning their creative path, Georgina offers practical steps to help them realign their purpose:
Revisit Core Values:
Reflect on what truly matters beyond recognition and success. Journaling about personal values and passions can provide clarity.
“I had to dig deep and ask myself if the goals I set years ago were still relevant to what I want today,” Georgina explains.
Set a Long-term Vision:
Develop a vision for what both your business and personal life should look like in 5-10 years, including lifestyle, financial, and creative aspirations.
Georgina shares, “I needed to move beyond ‘vanity metrics’ and look at the bigger picture of where I wanted my life to be.”
Create for Joy, Not Just for Profit:
Make time for projects that bring personal fulfillment, even if they aren’t immediately profitable. This can reignite the passion for creativity.
“I realised that I needed to find joy again in my work, not just focus on the end results,” Georgina says.
Set Boundaries to Protect Creative Energy:
Establish limits with clients and projects that drain energy, ensuring there’s space for work that truly fulfills and inspires.
“I had allowed people to have constant access to me, which left me exhausted. I had to reclaim my energy by setting boundaries,” she recalls.
Embrace Constant Growth and Reflection:
Accept that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Regular reflection and adjustments are key to evolving in the creative journey.
“The creative journey isn’t about having all the answers but being open to evolving along the way,” Georgina emphasises.
Building a business with heart
Georgina and Haavard are now focused on building their business, The Creative’s Toolkit, with intention and purpose.
“It’s not just about financial sustainability; it’s about ensuring our work aligns with our values and long-term vision,” she shares. They aim to create a business that supports their lifestyle and nurtures their creativity, allowing them to show up authentically for their audience and clients.
For those feeling unsure about their own path, Georgina encourages them to ask:
What does success truly mean to me?
This question can lead to deeper understanding and a more intentional approach to building a creative career.
